I found mold growing in my starter bottle along one side. My fault. I know to swab down the sides and even have another bottle to transfer the starter to. I've pulled some starter out and have started two new jars to see how they will do. Any other suggestions?

Sounds like you're doing the right thing--just keep a close eye on the new starters to make sure they're not growing mold. Stirring the mothers an extra time or two during the day will help too. If moving them to fresh containers isn't enough, consider adding an extra feeding. This will keep the yeasts and other bacteria active, which should keep mold at bay.

I have added an extra feeding. Was able to make a Sourdough Basque Sheepherders bread. Been looking for a recipe for quite some time. It uses olive oil and some sugar. The sugar probably helped the rising as it doubled in a couple of hours, This August has been different than the last 2 years. Super cool mornings with fog, warm afternoons. Bread did its rising in the cool am. Don't want to lose this precious starter. I'll do the extra stirring and feeding. Thanks for the advice.

Sounds like your mother is bouncing back. Doubling in size within two hours is great! It would be a shame to lose, considering the time it takes to get it established. I'm hoping for the best for you!
