Hi there~
I live in a tropical environment. Tempe in the 80's. Can I still create a starter? If so, any special instructions?
Best,
Tom

I think getting a mother going in warmer temps is oftentimes easier, so long as the mother is fed 2x/day to ensure the food supply isn't exhausted between feedings. As you progress, if you notice your mother looking deflated between feedings, that's a sign it's not getting enough food. I don't think this will happen with temps in to 80s though. Do you have AC/central air in your home?

No a.c. here. Not really needed.

So far so good coming up on day 6. Momma's got a sweet/tangy smell. Fruit flies drove me bonkers today so went and got some fly traps. Sorry, but they were getting in my nose ears eyes and could not take it anymore. 36k we ft house and they are in every room!

Anyway gonna make/freeze a big batch of pancakes to freeze. Like the book recipe but I'm inclined to add a two taps of bourbon vanilla and I got gifted with for my b-day a few months ago.

I thought I would wait a bit for the culture to mature more before bread.

Best and thanks so much for all the encouragement here and in the book Mary Jane and Ashley,

Tom

Sounds like you're off to a great start, aside from the fruit flies. They are certainly a nuisance, and definitely drawn to the mother. Pancakes with a touch of bourbon vanilla sound delicious!
