Lorraine steered me in the Wild Bread direction. It's so exciting to have this "science project" during this time of retreat. I made two failed sourdough starters with rye flour and water from another book. It was pretty horrible as they both smelled like wet socks, only worse.
I started the new mother two weeks ago and it smells nice and sour. I can't wait to make some bread this weekend!

Which type of flour are you looking to use for your mother?

Hi Ann, a sourdough mother that smells like wet socks sounds very unappealing. I'm glad your new mother smells nice and sour, and I can't wait to hear more about your mother's progression! Which type of flour are you using?
