I neglected my refrigerator mother for 2 weeks. I just uncovered it and it was grey and sour smelling . I fed it and mixed it all up and put it back in the refrigerator . So can I still use it? Also I will be going away for another 2 weeks , how do I handle that when I will not be able to feed it again? #9785;#65039;

Hi Joan,

As long as the gray on top wasn't fuzzy, and it smells normal, I'd say it's just surface discoloration from lack of movement. You can coax more life back into your mother by transferring it to the counter for a few days and resuming twice daily feedings. After a couple days, it should perk up and can go back in the refrigerator.

For your next two weeks away, you could ask someone to feed it for you, or feed it the day you leave, and hope it will bounce back once you return and are able to resume feedings. Usually your mother can easily bounce back after one skipped feeding, but any longer and it gets dicey.
